Our Curriculum

In the Foundation Stage we follow the specific curriculum that is set for this age group. Our EYFS curriculum is shaped around our pupils' interests.

From Year 1, in line with guidelines set by the Department for Education, we follow the National Curriculum. To facilitate mixed age teaching, we use the milestones in the Essentials Curriculum produced by Chris Quigley, a link to which can be found below. Within these frameworks, our teaching and learning is driven by our core values to create a personalised curriculum that we call 'The Wookey Way'.

Phonics is taught in the early years using the Twinkl phonics scheme, which has been validated by the DfE.

Our Calculation Policy (below) explains the methods and language we use to teach the four mathematical operations at Wookey, from Reception through to Year 6. We hope that you will find it useful when approaching maths with your children. We have also shared with parents a pack of ideas to integrate the learning of maths into everyday activities and games. Copies of this can be provided via the school office.

Teachers use our curriculum overview to plan collaboratively for the long and medium term. Termly plans are shared with parents via our Seesaw learning journals. Click HERE to see the most recent curriculum overview plans for each of our classes. We have been working hard on restructuring our curriculum in the past few months and you can now see our curriculum 'Rolling Programmes' below, detailing the learning planned for every subject in each of our classes across the 2-year cycle.

If you would like to find out more about our curriculum, please speak to your child's class teacher.
